Students in second grade will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Assessments (IA). We will test on October 21- October 24, 2019. The primary purpose of these assessments is to identify students for Gifted and Talented programs (ALERT). The identification of gifted and talented students is a multi-step process that consists of screening and referral, assessment of eligibility, and placement. The tests will measure reasoning and problem-solving skills in the areas of 1) verbal, 2) quantitative (mathematics), 3) spatial or non-verbal (using shapes and figures to solve problems). It is important to make sure your child has a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and is at school on time during testing days.
