Tell Your Story- Richland Two Film Festival

Tell Your Story- Richland Two Film Festival

Each year, Richland Two provides a unique opportunity for students and district staff to share their story through video creation. We are excited to be in our 6th year and know this will be a bigger event this year. Our window of opportunity begins on September 10th, where students can complete the interest form and turn in permission slips. Visit our website for more information.

Annual Clemson vs Carolina Food Drive

It's that time of year again! What time you ask?

Time for Langford's Annual Clemson vs Carolina Food Drive!

Our collection is already underway and will continue until November 19th. This year, Langford is partnering with Harvest Hope Food Bank, to assist those in our community.

Here's how it works:

  • Each team has a collection box in the grade level houses
  • Teachers and students are keeping collection data on a shared Google Sheet
  • Classes earn incentives for their donations as well
  • Highest collecting class earns incentives AND the Can Drive Trophy!

Don't have a student at Langford but wish to help? AWESOME! Items can be dropped off in the front office!

Join Team Langford in the fight against hunger! When we all work together, everyone WINS!

Digital Citizenship Week

Digital Citizenship Week

October 15-19, 2018

"Digital citizens think critically about what they see online and learn to make their own smart choices online and in life. That means understanding the benefits and risks of sharing information, knowing the difference between a credible news source and a sponsored ad, and balancing screen time with other activities. Cultivating these skills is essential for anyone to thrive in today's increasingly tech-driven world. But digital citizens aren't born -- they're taught ..." (Common Sense Media)

Does your child have good digital manners? Do they know what is appropriate to share with others online? Do you have a family technology policy? Does your child know how to determine real news from fake news?

As a 1:1 District and an elementary school that is rich in technology, our goal is to integrate technology into our curriculum while teaching our students to protect themselves and their privacy. Common Sense Media is a site that works hard to assist parents, teachers, and students to meet this goal! Not only does it provide a wealth of resources on digital citizenship, but it also provides important information on movies, tv shows, apps, game, and websites! What do you want to learn more about?

Second Grade Assessment Infomation

CogAt and Iowa Assessment Info:

Students in second grade will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Assessments (IA). We will test on October 29- November 2, 2018. The primary purpose of these assessments is to identify students for the Gifted and Talented programs (ALERT). The identification of gifted and talented students is a multi-step process which consists of screening and referral, assessment of eligibility, and placement. The tests will measure reasoning and problem-solving skills in the areas of 1) verbal, 2) quantitative (mathematics), 3) spatial or non-verbal (using shapes and figures to solve problems). It is important to make sure your child has a good night sleep, a healthy breakfast, and is at school on time during testing days.

Vasser Brothers Step Up

Mrs. Vasser (mom), Antonius (5th) and Ayden (3rd)
As the water was rising in the Low Country of South Carolina, the Vasser brothers began to step up as well. Antonius (5th grade) and Ayden (3rd grade) devised a plan to assist those that are in need due to  Hurricane Florence. The boys have made bracelets and have set up shop during their school breaks, collecting donations for Hurricane victims. If you are interested in making a donation or would like to learn more about how you can help, please contact Langford Elementary.

R2 United Way Campaign

Dear Langford Families,

Do you believe that one person can make a difference? We do! That’s one of the many reasons Langford Elementary is a proud supporter of Richland Two’s Annual United Way campaign. Once a year, each of us has a chance to change lives. Our donations ensure that children are kept safe and have access to education; assistance for the elderly and that people who need our help will get it. One person can make a difference, but many people working together can create lasting change.

Our campaign will run from September 19-September 28. There will be themed days that students can participate in and we welcome donations that can be deposited in their classroom. No one is obligated to donate or participate. This is simply a way that Langford is contributing to our community and we want the students and families to share in our joy of giving back.

The schedule for the week is as follows:

9/24 -Hat Day
9/25 - Crazy Sock Day
9/26 -Super Hero Tshirt Day
9/27 - Favorite Team Jersey/Shirt Day

Knowing what our team can do when we all pull together, we are confident that we can make a generous donation to our community and be an example to our students of working together to help others.

Thank you,
L. Davis
School Counselor

Langford's Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 30th from 5:30-7: 30 pm. Our general session will begin at 5:30 pm with an introduction from our administrative team and a message from our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the School Improvement Council (SIC). Our first session will be from 6:05- 6:45 and our last session will be from 6:50- 7:30. Parents also have an opportunity to ask questions. Open House is mainly for our parents, so please make arrangements for your children if possible.

The PTO store will open at 5:10 pm and again at 6:50 pm. So please stop by if you are interested in purchasing some Langford merchandise.

June 7th at 12 noon.  Any medications left after that date will be destroyed.

South Carolina Immunization laws require tetanus/Tdap vaccine for all students prior to entering the seventh grade. Please schedule an appointment with your child’s physician to obtain the required vaccine. Once your child has been vaccinated, bring a copy of the updated shot record to your child’s school nurse.

One (1) dose of Tetanus/ Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered on or after the 7th birthday will be required for all seventh graders.  It is strongly recommended that adolescents who have not yet received a dose of Tdap vaccine be immunized in advance of this.
