Fantastic Friday!

Welcome to a new year and we are off to a GREAT start!  The past eight days have been amazing!  Students are making new friendships and giving their Best EFFORT each day.  Our young labs are building strong communities in the classroom and the Administrative team has enjoyed spending time in each class and seeing the excitement and drive of our students.

We appreciate your flexibly with dismissal this week as well as your patience in the car rider line and with bus transportation. Here are just a few friendly reminders:
1. Teaching and learning begins at 8:00am.  If you arrive after 8:00am you will need to walk your child in to the office.  We want to make sure that students arrive to class in a timely manner. Students are marked tardy at 8:10.
2. During morning drop off, 6 cars stop and 6 Labs hop. We do this in order to  get everyone out safely and as quickly as possible.
3.    Please do not drop students off in the parking lot or drop them off before 7:30am. We want to make      sure that all students are supervised and safe at all times.

If you have not had an opportunity to join the PTO or SIC, we ask that you
consider being a part of these organizations. Your participation sends a positive message to our children that school is valued at home. It is also one way to build great partnerships between home and school.
Once again, thank you for a wonderful start to the 2014-2015 school year!

Come visit us! Our doors are always open!

 Note From the Nurse:

Fever is the body’s way of fighting infection.  Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and liquids and keep a check on the fever with a thermometer.  There are times when you should see a doctor for fever.   And remember, your child should not come to school with a fever, or return  until fever free for 24 hours. For more information please contact our nurse, Katie Rummel, RN, or call your health care provider.

In honor of National College Colors Day, Langford students and staff showed their School Pride by wearing Langford Spirit shirts or their favorite sports team's colors. Although several schools and colors were represented, we are proud to all be part of Team Langford! Go Labs!

 Reminder!

All new and returning students should be registered using InfoSnap! This registration provides schools with very important information including medical history and the Responsible Use Policy (RUP). Students will not be able to use technology (chromebooks, desktops, laptops, ipads, etc.) until the registration is completed. You may register your child by visiting the district website or by visiting the school. We have stations set up to assist you with this process. Thank you.

CALL FOR SIC!

It is that time of year when we start accepting nominations for our School Improvement Council (SIC). The SIC plays a vital role in the success of our school. They work hand in hand with our school PTO and plan wonderful events such as Parent Summit and Career Day.  The SIC writes an annual report to parents about the progress of the plan, assists the principal in writing the narrative for the School Report Card, and unlike other voluntary school organizations, councils are mandated by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina. If you are interested in being a part of the School Improvement Council (SIC) please fill out the information below and send in a brief bio telling the Langford community a little about yourself.

Attention All 3-5th Grade Girls!
Langford is starting up its very own Girls on The Run Team. We are looking for girls that are interested in participating in fun activities as well as completing a local 5k! For more details on this amazing program and to sign up online now, visit the Girls on the Run-Columbia site here!

It's a Thankful Thursday!

Good Afternoon Langford Family!

This time of year is, oh so busy... the end of summer and the beginning of another school year. We are all rushing from point A to B, finishing tasks, running errands, and preparing for the next day.  In our mad rush of "normal", let us not forget to take a moment to be thankful- for all things big and small.

On this Thankful Thursday, we wanted to share with you just two of the many things that we are thankful for here at Langford.

1. The Opportunity for our Community to Share with the WORLD

Last year, third grade teacher, Kristin Siron, introduced Langford to The Pencil Project. Through this project, our students and staff were able to collect over 5,000 pencils, school supplies, and playground toys (balls, frisbees, jump ropes, etc.)  to share with an elementary school in Uganda. Our school came together to collect supplies that we often take for granted, yet make such a huge difference in the education of the children in Uganda. Our students were enthusiastic about giving and were excited to receive the letter and pictures of "our" package arriving at it's destination. We will continue our partnership with The Pencil Project this year, so stay tuned for more information!

2. A World Class Business that Shares with our Community

Ms. Tyler with Community Service Group from Spirax
Spirax Sarco is a company that manufactures "all things related to steam" and their world headquarters is located right here in Blythewood! Each year, their Community Service group raises funds to provide a donation to a charity/school/organization. This year, our very own Whitney Tyler was selected to as the recipient! Ms. Tyler is a first year teacher at Langford and was very appreciative of Spirax's gift. Great things happen when the community comes together! Ms. Tyler and Langford would like to extend a heartfelt  "Thank you" to the Community Service Group and the employees of Spirax! We look forward to building a strong community relationship and working together in the future!
