Langford Student Outreach- We're Headed YOUR Way!

That's right! Langford will be on "wheels" and head into one of our school's communities, Trinity United Methodist Church, on Thursday, October 29, 2020, between the hours of  11:30 and 12:30 afternoon. During this outreach effort, it is our intent to visit with our students and/or families, and help provide eLearning support, facilitate social & emotional well checks and meet your current school-related needs. Although we are not able to provide advanced technical assistance, we can assist with getting students logged on to their device and help them gain access to their teacher's Google Classroom. When we say that "we're in this together" we truly mean it! We look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday

Langford Grading Communication Letter to Parents

Dear Langford Parents,

I hope this email finds you and your family well. Thank you for your patience while our district’s instructional leaders used the guidance from the South Carolina Department of Education to formulate a plan to count e-learning/remote learning toward the completion of the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. The information below outlines how all elementary schools in Richland Two will use the e-learning/remote learning assignments to assess students’ progress. In these unprecedented times, our focus remains on student progress and learning. Teachers will continue to offer appropriate grade-level instruction while being flexible and considerate of each family’s unique circumstances.

Grades
  1. Report cards will not be issued for the third-nine weeks. The third-nine weeks’ grades listed in Parent Portal should now be considered as interim reporting on your student’s performance through the midpoint of the second semester. If you need help logging into Parent Portal, please email Mrs. Hogan at ahogan@richland2.org
  2. The third- and fourth-nine weeks will now be counted as one grading period for the second semester.
  3. Students will not receive a traditional numerical or letter grade for the second semester.
PreK – first grade: Students will receive a “Satisfactory” or “Needs Improvement” in English/language arts and math for the second semester. Students will not receive a grade in related arts.
Second grade: Students will receive a “Pass” or “Not Pass” in English/language arts and math for the second semester. Students will not receive a grade in Related Arts.
Third grade – fifth grade: Students will receive a “Pass” or “Not Pass” in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies for the second semester. Students will not receive a grade in Related Arts.

E-learning/Remote Learning Assignments
  • The remote learning work assigned to students for March 19-April 9, and the e-learning/remote learning assignments starting on April 20 will count toward a child’s progress in their classes.
  • The instructional packets will be collected when we return to school in May. If the school closure is extended beyond April 30, we will announce plans for a safe collection of the work similar to how we distributed the packets. For now, please keep our child’s work in a safe place.

The faculty and staff at Langford Elementary recognize the challenges our families are facing during this unprecedented time. If your family’s current circumstances are impacting your students’ ability to complete the e-learning assignments, please reach out to your student’s teacher(s) or Mrs. Davis, our school counselor at lasdavis@richland2.org. We care deeply about our students and their families and are here to support you and your child during this unique time of teaching and learning.

Sincerely,
Kaseena Jackson
Principal

Outdoor Wifi Zone Available

Richland Two now offers outdoor Wi-Fi zones for our students to connect to the Internet using their district-issued Chromebook or a personal device.

Supporting students during the school closure is the district's main focus right now. In addition to providing e-learning/remote learning content for students and meals for children, Richland Two administrators have been committed to helping families who do not have Internet access at home. District staff members have explored several possibilities over the past two weeks. As a result of some premier teamwork, wireless equipment has been installed outside of several schools. Now families can park their cars in the designated locations, connect to the Internet and access their students' e-learning assignments. The outdoor Wi-Fi zones will be accessible seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Additional Information

  • District provided devices should connect to the rsd2-secure wifi network automatically when in range.
  • District staff and students are also able to connect personal devices to this wifi network.
  • Devices not provided by the district may connect with no account information required to the
rsd2-open wifi network. Just select it from your device, and it should connect. The rsd2-open wifi
network is not encrypted. Use at your own risk.
  • Access gates will be open and wifi service available from 8am to 7pm daily, including weekends,
until the service is discontinued.
  • Coverage areas shown are approximate, and will vary based on conditions.

Remote Learning Update

March 17, 2020

Dear Langford Families,

Although we can never replace the value of traditional instruction, we are committed to supporting our students while they are out of school during the COVID-19 school closure (March 16-31, 2020). Richland Two’s elementary students will engage in remote learning by completing a work packet specific to their grade level. The work packet contains assignments correlated with the South Carolina College and Career-Ready Standards.

There are three options for you to obtain your child’s work packet:

Option 1: Click your child’s grade level below. Download and print the pages of the packet. Please be advised that you don’t have to print the whole packet at once. You can print pages as you need them each day. Please e-mail your child’s homeroom teacher to let him/her know that you have printed/plan to print the packet.
Option 2: Pick up a hard copy of the packet from the school. You may pick up your child’s packet Wednesday, March 18 and Thursday, March 19 according to the schedule below.
Wednesday, March 18 11:00-3:00 pm
Thursday, March 19 9:00-2:00 pm
Option 3: Request that a hard copy of the packet be delivered. On Thursday, we will deploy school buses to run bus routes and bring hard copy packets to bus stops. You may visit a bus stop to pick up a packet for your child. The schedule for bus delivery will be available by Wednesday.

If you are choosing Option 2 or Option 3, please click HERE to access the Remote Learning Packet Preference Form, and indicate which option you are choosing for each of your children.

Students will submit the completed assignments to their teachers when school resumes.
