State Testing Dates: Finish Strong

This week, we will begin statewide standardized assessments in grades third through fifth. The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) and The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SC PASS) will be administered in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. All assessment will be completed in computer-based format except English Language Arts (ELA) which will be completed paper pencil.
During the testing window, there are several steps you can take to help maximize your child's performance on these assessments:

➢ Make sure your student is present for each day of testing. Schedule all appointments outside the testing window. If it is absolutely necessary, schedule afternoon appointments as we will test each morning.

➢ Make sure students get plenty of rest. Students need 8 -9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night to perform at the optimum level.

➢ Each morning, make sure your student eats a healthy breakfast.

➢ Ensure your student reports to school early (8:00 am).

➢ Talk with your child about testing to help reduce test anxiety, encourage your child to focus and put forth their best effort when encountering difficult questions on the test and remember to praise your child for working hard, which provides instant positive feedback.

Students, here are a few steps you can take to enhance your performance during testing:

✓ Arrive early on test day.

✓ Be comfortable but alert.

✓ Stay relaxed and confident. When nerves take over, remember to take several slow, deep breaths and relax.

✓ Review test after completion, making sure they did not forget to answer any questions, miss-mark any answers, or made any careless mistake.

✓ Make sure you try your BEST!

One of the most important things to remember is to encourage your child. Start having conversations about what it means to give your personal best. Remember, we have been preparing all year and our students are ready to do their best!
